Hobbiton Mountain Bike challenge
Can you keep up with the Cape parrot?
Nowhere else in South Africa will you be afforded a more iconic ride than in Hogsback.
Hug the dramatic dolerite rock faces of the three mountains before dipping into the cool indigenous forest filled with squawking Cape Parrots and then ascending onto plateaus of vast grasslands dotted with scented pine trees before the final descent of magical forest and streams back to Hobbiton and the screeching audience of Samango monkeys.
This year we will again host 3 different distances:
- 40 km – Starting at 8am R 250
- 15 km – Starting at 8.15 am R 150
- 5 km – Starting at 8.30 am R 100 (no CSA fees applicable)
- Accommodation: R100 / person / night
If you are not a member of Cycling South Africa (CSA) you will need to buy a CSA event day license – R35
LATE ENTRY FEE: An additional R 50 fee is applicable it the entry is received after the 9th December 2021.
Dormitory accommodation is available at Hobbiton at a cost of R 100 per person per night.
Please note that this is basic accommodation with shared bathrooms and a shared kitchen.
If you want to go for more upmarket accommodation, Hogsback has a lot on offer with over 60 accommodation stays. But the mountain is filling up quickly over the holiday season, so please make sure that you book well in advance or complete the Central Accommodation Request form. Also bear in mind that Stays do not like or take one nighters over the holiday season, so stay a bit longer and enjoy all Hogsback have to offer!
You have to sign 2 indemnity forms, one for Hobbiton as part of your registration and one for the privilege of riding through the most amazing forests (FAMRAM (Pty) Ltd, AMATHOLE TIMBER HOLDINGS (PTY) LTD, AMATHOLE FORESTRY COMPANY (PTY) LTD, CJ RANCE (PTY) LTD)
No entry without this will be deemed complete and therefore you will not be able to race if this is not signed and attached to your registration form.
Entrants and participants in the Hobbiton MBT Race acknowledge that although all precautions have been taken by the organizing body to ensure the safety of all participants, there are
be dangers inherent in participation in the Event and activities related thereto. Mountain biking is a potentially dangerous sport that can lead to injuries for riders and spectators. Participants voluntarily assume the risk of attendance at and participation in the Event and hereby waive all claims of whatsoever nature and howsoever arising in relation to the Event or otherwise against any parties, including but not limited to: the organizing body, the sponsors, the advertisers, and the directors, employees, suppliers and assistants of these parties, including, Amatola Forestry Company, and any official, marshal or agent acting on their behalf. Participants herby irrevocably indemnify and hold harmless the above parties against any liability and claims of any nature whatsoever arising, whether directly or indirectly caused and whether arising from negligence or from the participation or involvement in or passage to or from the Event or otherwise, including but not limited to liability for delay, inconvenience, accident, death, injury, illness to their person, or loss or damage to property or cost and expenses sustained, incurred or put to by Participants and/or by any minor children under the care or control of Participants. Parents or guardians authorizing a minor’s participants in the Event, which shall prima facie be evidenced by their signature on this entry form, hereby consent to such minor being bound to the afore going and further indemnify the parties to extent, if any, to which such minor is not capable of waiving his/her rights as stipulated above.
