Hobbiton was started in 1947 as an Outdoor Education Centre for disadvantaged children, especially orphans created by the 2nd World War. Since then our focus has remained faithful to disadvantaged children although due to financial constraints we now also offer education and development to children and adults from paying sectors of the community.

Adventure Recreation Association accreditation
- Hobbiton has full A.R.A. accreditation and therefore carries the responsibility for accidents, etc. Anywhere else that is not accredited is unlikely to be covered by adequate insurance and so at non-accredited centres it thus becomes the client's responsibility to pay for damages, hospitalization, medication, etc.
